Thanks mate. Good mix this one, bit of a mix between garage/ future garage and dubstep. The man is a dynamite producer.

http://ra4.residentadvisor.net/audio/RA220_100816_Harry-Domenic-residentadvisor.net.mp3

Tracklist:

Can you tell us a little more about the mix?

Harri: I was trying to make more of a warm up mix rather than peak-time, and to include some older stuff rather than just current tunes. I decided to leave the mix till the last minute, as I work better to a deadline. I tried to do one last night but was not that happy with it. It seemed to flow easier today.

Domenic: I wrote down some tracks (old and new) that I really wanted in the mix over the period of a few weeks, and then tried to work out the best way to get the right flow and feel in the running order. For me, when I first heard house and techno over twenty years ago it was like some sort of futuristic, electronic funk that had elements of all the music I had previously loved. Soul, funk, jazz and blues were being remade into something new and exciting using sci-fi style synth lines, raw basslines and drum machines. I still listen for that feel in a lot of the records I buy today, and I have tried to put that feel into this mix. I imagine that if there had been a club scene in Blade Runner, then this is the music they would dancing to.

It's probably one of my favourite mixes of this year, the whole 2 hours are fucking stunning. It's definitely a chill-out mix, can see this being thrashed hard this summer. See what you think  Smiley

I'm quite liking the Harri and Domenic mix, as well. It has garnered itself some promised future play to suit certain moods.

Although this probably surprises some people very little, I like the Cio D'or mix as well. I'm a fan of Monolake and other ambient experimentalists. It's about the only music I am happy to listen to when reading as well.

The Hard Wax and Ostgut Ton man lays down an energetic, hour-long mix for this week's RA podcast.

As far as contemporary Berlin-based house and techno producers go, you don't get much better than René Pawlowitz. When he's not spending his time behind the counter at the city's legendary Hard Wax record store, he's busy conjuring up all manner of material in his studio, taking inspiration from classic Detroit and Berlin techno while infusing elements of hardcore, breakbeat, dubstep and ambient along the way. Although the majority of his output is released under the Shed banner, Pawlowitz has diversified his sound with a number of different pseudonyms. His white label offerings as Wax and EQD have become essential selections for fans of rugged Teutonic techno, while he's also turned his hand to 140bpm bass music with his work as The Panamax Project.

Although René has garnered a reputation for his prolific and consistent approach club-oriented 12-inch singles, he's also proved his mettle when it comes to creating larger bodies of work. His debut album came in at the #1 spot in our top albums of 2008, with RA's Will Lynch championing its "lustrous aesthetic, oblique rhythms and coherent diversity," so seeing as his sophomore full-length—entitled The Traveller—is due to hit the shops later this month, so we thought that it'd be the ideal time to let Pawlowitz demonstrate his idiosyncratic vision of how techno should be.

What have you been up to recently?

Too many things that have nothing to do with making music.

How and where was the mix recorded?

Two MKs and a Ecler mixer at the Hard Wax store.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the mix?

It's a usual Shed set - made for an audience that is more into house and techno. And good to have it in a club as well as at home.

Do you have a preference out of DJing and playing live?

I like both and I need the change to keep both things interesting.

Your love of breakbeat, hardcore and dubstep is well documented. Do you ever manage to incorporate much of it into your sets?

I always try to do that. Not easy to handle all that kind of music in a set. It's always an adventure for me and the audience as well. Haha...

Did you find the album recording process any easier this time around?

Same procedure as every year. Smiley

What are you up to next?

No plan at all. As always. Almost.

1. Low Density Matter: Blue Steel - Keysound
2. Becoming Real: Fast Motion (DVA’s Hi Emotions Remix) - Ramp
3. Cosmin TRG: See Other People (Falty DL remix) - Rushhour
4. Delphic: Doubt (Kyle Hall Remix)
5. Duncan Powell: Pushin’ (Falty DL remix) - 2nd Drop
6. Andrea: Got To Forget - Daphne
7. T++: Cropped - Honest Jon’s
8. Cosmin TRG: Béton Brut - Hemlock
9. Screed: Side - Synthetic Catalogue
10. Robert Hood: Towns That… - M Plant
11. Jason Fine: Many To Many (Ben Klock Remix) - Kontra
12. Rok/Jonzon: Sequential Polka - International Gigolo
13. Silent Phase: Fire (Rewired Mix) - R&S
14. Eliphino: Let Me Love You Forever - Brownswood
15. Sepalcure: Love Pressure - Hotflush

Tracklist:

Can you tell us a little about the idea behind the mix?

Well, for this mix, Daze Maxim, Thomas Melchior, Fumiya Tanaka, Sammy Dee, Ninca Leece, Caro, Efdemin, Anthony Collins, Seth Troxler, Benjamin Myers, Dilo, Timefog, Mikael Stravostrand and Sarah Joy Murray all let me use their musical contributions and samples for my various studio projects that wound up making it into this mix, for which I’m extremely grateful.

With this mix I was sort of trying to cover what I have been up to the last seven or eight years, but put into more of a club context. Mind you, the sort of club that probably only exists in my mind. I was trying to keep it loose and fairly consistent, less reliant on changing kick drum sounds, clap sounds, snares etc. and more about moving through some of the musical ideas I have had or am currently having. The percussive elements became more a backdrop so that I can showcase some of my past and present ideas, with the help of the above contributors.
